CHANT COUNTRY GREEN NEWS

Davis R. Chant Realtors Milford office has gone green!

Green has always been our company's signature color in advertising, chosen forty three years ago by Dave Chant when he first opened Chant Realtors to pay homage to the expansive forests of north eastern Pennsylvania. But now green is not just the color of our paint and ink. The Chant Realty Milford office has gone through a "green makeover" as part of a case study project at Harvard University Extension School to become Pike County's first "Green Realtor." The Chant Milford Office is now an Energy Star Partner and we are actively reducing our carbon footprint.

What has our Milford office "green makeover" entailed? All Milford staff are taking part in green realty education on sustainable building practices so that our sales associates will be able to advise our clients who are interested in "going green" on local resources for building or renovating their new homes to have a smaller carbon footprint that will be more energy efficient with lower heating, cooling and electric bills. We can help our clients find FHA Energy Efficiency Mortgages, which allow a lender to add 100% of the additional cost of cost effective energy improvements to an already approved mortgage loan with no additional down payment required, to a maximum of 5% of the homes value or $8000, which ever is greater. Chant sales associates now not only can help you find your dream home, but we will be able to help you save money running it over the years that you live there. Green homes are not only more energy efficient; they use less water and have healthier indoor air quality which we know is of concern to many of our clients. Two Milford agents, Arelene Quirk and Sarah Clark will be participating in advanced training in sustainable building practices to earn "EcoBroker" certification. We anticipate other agents in our office will also become "EcoBroker" certified in the future.

Our building has had an energy audit performed by Pete Vargo of Nu-Tech, an Energy Star certified auditor, and we will be making building upgrades to increase our energy efficiency based on Pete's findings. Pete recommended that we start our green makeover by changing all our incandescent bulbs for compact fluorescent. We now have seventy eight compact fluorescent bulbs lighting our office, which could help us achieve a cost savings range of 2000-3000 dollars a year based on our seven day a week opening hours and reduce our carbon emissions by almost 400 tons. Additionally, Pete has given us a 'to do' list for our building, ranging from simple re-caulking projects on windows to replacing our forced air handler and ducting system. This will significantly cut down on our energy consumption and improve our indoor air quality. Overall, our light bulb changes and building upgrades could help us save up to $4500 a year in energy costs and significantly reduce the tonnage of carbon our building emits a year.
