With the recent devastating droughts that have affected much of the South Eastern US people are being forced to conserve water.

It's not only in the southeast and western states of USA that face water shortages are a problem, but worldwide over a billion people lack access to clean fresh water. Through the natural process of evaporation and rain we are actually drinking the same water the dinosaurs drank. Our prehistoric ancestors left the natural water resources in perfect condition for us; will we do the same for generations to come?

Next to global warming, (carbon emissions and greenhouse gases), our water supply and lack of it, is the next serious singular issue the earth and its inhabitants are facing. Centuries of human development have exacted a serious toll on our fresh water supplies. Pollution of our rivers and streams through urban development, runoff, sewage dumping, agriculture, and dams that have choked off rivers and upset the natural balance of the earths water filtration system, all of these have significantly altered the availability and quality of our fresh water.

Water sustains our life. Our bodies, homes and economy can't live without it. Understanding and using water efficiently can ensure that there is plenty of clean fresh water for generations to come. Every day in the USA, 340 billion gallons of fresh water are taken from rivers, streams and reservoirs and cleaned for residential, commercial and industrial uses. The typical household uses about about 100+ gallons per person per day! That includes water for drinking, cleaning, and outdoor use.

Most household water is used for bathing and for flushing toilets, and an average 15 percent is lost to leaks. Five billion gallons of drinkable water are flushed down toilets in the USA every day. Did you know that a leaky faucet can waste up to 20 gallons of water a day? And a leaky toilet can lose 200 gallons a day! Finding ways to save water will save you money and help preserve our water supplies for the future.
